Well....the primary is over and you all know the results.
Matt Lynch won the race for Chardon Municipal Judge. I did not support him and I still stand by my critique of him and the other two candidates in a previous post.... although....if it boiled down to Matt Lynch and Dennis Coyne, then I am glad Matt won, as I think Dennis Coyne was the very worst of the three candidates, and even more so after listening to the audio recording of his conversation with the Bainbridge Police Chief.
Matt....if you read this, I congratulate you on your victory, although I still don't think you are qualified for the position. Maybe you will surprise me and prove me wrong in which case I will humbly admit it. We will see.
Concerning the Chardon and West Geauga school levies that were shot down in flames....again..and again..and again:
How many times does the school board and the superintendent have to be told, by the people, the word NO..NO..NO?
I am by no means against education for the children but that is not what these levies were really about. They were about the teachers union unrealistic demands for higher salaries, more lucrative pension and retirement programs, health coverage, etc.
It made me sick to see the tactics used by the the school board and group in favor of the levies. They used the children as bait to try making us all feel guilty. This tactic has been routinely used in the past because it has always worked....BUT NOT THIS TIME! I'm glad to see alot of people not falling for this anymore.
They sent out a mailer showing a pail catching dripping water from the ceiling. In the newspaper there was a full page editorial by the perfect "All American Family" telling us "not to let the kids down"....that it was our "Civic Duty" to pass the levy. GIVE ME A BREAK!!
Don't worry, the schools will not close down, the children will still get a good education. Sorry....some of the frills may not be their but many of you haven't gotten it yet. The economy has gone south and will head further south. People are struggling and forced to cut back....and yes....even in Geauga County. Government and their tax/levy mentality have become huge parasites upon the people of this country....they are predators and we are the prey. THIS HAS GOT TO STOP NOW!!
The school boards can cut back way more than they will let you know....they just don't want to. They can also run things more efficiently and creatively like successfull small business owners do in tough times....that is, if they have that kind of intellect....lets hope so.
All of you who supported the school levies that are mad and dissapointed....I have good news for you!
You all still have the ability and free will to get together and support the schools on your own. You don't need a levy to do that. Just dig in to your pockets and give them whatever you want. Maybe you know a teacher that needs a bigger pension or more health coverage or needs to retire in Aruba....you can even give them the money directly.
To end on a good note....there are some great teachers out there who really care about the kids and giving them a good education, but lets all be realistic in these times.
