LETTER TO THE EDITOR:
Former Chester Township Trustee Pat Mula is riding her broom again…
In case you missed it, we hit a new low at the Thursday, March 24, 2011 Chester Township Meeting. Pat Mula, former Trustee asked for clarification regarding overtime that was allocated or granted to a Chester Township employee while Fiscal Officer Karen Austin was in the hospital. Pat Mula actually wanted to make sure that overtime was not granted to support Karen Austin when she missed work due to a very serious car accident. Karen Austin spoke and clarified that she was in the hospital for ten days, however with the exception of the two days she suffered in intensive care, once out of intensive care, she had phone and email communication with the Township and managed her duties from her hospital bed. The day after being released from the hospital she spent 8 1/2 hrs working at the Township.
To which Pat Mula replied something to the effect of…, “This accident did not occur on work time…” and “I am not concerned about anyone’s personal health situation, I want to know if overtime was granted to Karen Austin’s assistant when the Fiscal Officer missed work because of this accident.” Trustees Caputo, Joyce and Lawrence sat there looking like "deers in the headlights" and did nothing to support our Fiscal Officer even though they are the ones who approve overtime for the Fiscal Officer's assistant. Pat Mula demanded a legal opinion from the Geauga County Prosecutor's Office.
From where I was sitting, the majority of the residents in the room were shaking their heads in disbelief at the cold-hearted callousness of the question and the situation. But for me, it was worse. I guess I saw a little of myself reflected back to me from Pat Mula and I realized that in some ways, I have behaved just like her. It was my Ebenezzer Scrooge moment.
I plan to continue to be involved in this community to remain vocal about relevant issues, especially the unconstitutional use of our tax dollars, but for now..., I have learned an important lesson and I am going to park my own broom.

Judy.....are you serious? You are nothing like that! All you do is tell the truth and report the facts....just like you did here.
The problem with that is....most people don't like the truth told, as it can be painfull and exposing....especially alot of the political office holders in Geauga. It forces people to see themselves as others see them and they don't like it. They say it is name calling when you tell the truth or they call you vicious and hurtfull. Just ignore it....it is just to shut you up or make you look bad. The truth is the truth and nothing will ever change that.
If the truth is that frightening to some people, maybe they should take a minute to think about what they are doing.
Keep being active in the community Judy.....you are one of only a very few out there telling the truth.....we need to hear it.
Hate is not good....it turns on you every time. It's one thing to have a personality conflict with another....but to make the cold, callous remarks "in a public meeting" that Pat Mula did about Karen Austin, who almost died in a car accident, IS a new low at the Chester Twp. Trustee meeting.
Pat Mula should be embarrassed for herself....but maybe she's not.
