The following is a letter bashing Senator Tim Grendell that appeared in the Geauga Times Courier by a Chester Twp. resident, apparently with inaccuracies, followed by a rebuttal letter from Senator Grendell detailing the accurate facts.
My opinion is that if a person wants to inform the community about a particular situation, subject, or person, THEN BE DAMNED SURE YOUR INFORMATION IS ACCURATE and if it turns out that it isn't, then be man enough to publicly appologize.
I have stated many times, that is the policy of this site. We are all capable of making mistakes. No one should be faulted, providing that after their mistake has been pointed out and verified, they appologize and correct it.
Further, I find nothing wrong with taking certain kinds of grant money, ONLY, if there are no strings attached.
GRANT MONEY, IS IT FREE MONEY?
Recently, I have been trying to understand how and where all this FREE grant money comes from for our recreational Parks and Township projects. Our County, State and Federal governments are all in the RED. The County and State are on the verge of financial ruins, yet somehow our State Senator, Tim Grendell and elected Trustees’ sees it in a different light. They think we have lots of taxpayer money to spend.
Can someone explain to me how a so-called conservative Republican or Democrats’ can keep seeking funding for pet projects in our County? Has anyone asked?
You see, this FREE grant money is not really not free at all. It comes from us taxpayers. Think of how much lower your income taxes would be if all this FREE money stopped flowing. I would just appreciate it if our politicians would just be honest about it. But as long as they can BUY YOUR VOTES with taxpayer money, it is going to continue.
We the People need to engage in stopping this practice at all levels of Government.
It makes no difference if they are Republican or Democrat; they all want to keep feeding us this FREE money for votes. The problem with the FREE money is that one day someone has to pay it back. Our politicians have become like drug addicts; addicted to the FREE money.
We all need to wake up. Our Geauga County tax dollars should stay in Geauga County. Then we would not need FREE money from other taxpayers, and vice versa. We should not allow our tax dollars to be confiscated by politicians, who turn around and give it back to us to buy our vote.
Senator Grendell or any other elected official certainly do not have Geauga resident’s best interests in mind or they would not be assisting increased indebtedness by our County and State by helping Townships to acquire grant money of any kind because you see, it is taxpayers money anyway and it need to be paid back sooner or later.
I would hope that the people of Geauga County are smart enough to make sure that in the upcoming election cycle in 2011 that we elect people in our Townships that have our best interest in mind, and not their political careers. Then, we can remember that we need to fill Senator Grendells' seat in 2012. Please help break this cycle of deceit, and remember that there is no FREE money.
