How many Geauga County residents are
paying lower state taxes?
How many Geauga County residents have seen a massive reduction in their state taxes? We are paying the highest state taxes in the history of this county and they are just about ready to skyrocket in 2011.
And even though our state taxes are escalating, Deborah O’Connor, Director of the Library has told us that we need to pass the library levy because in 2010, the library will receive $1,218,000 less from the state than it did in 2000. If we are not paying lower taxes, where did all of that money go?
Our state taxes are at an all time high and the return of our tax dollars from the State of Ohio is diminishing. The more we give them, the more they take.
My “NO” vote on the Geauga County Library 1.0 Mill Levy-Issue 7, Continuing Levy (twenty- year, self- renewing levy) is not against the Library, but for accountability.
Geauga County is facing a $1,400,000 dollar deficit and the Library Board has the nerve to ask for a $3,000,000 dollar plus, twenty-year, self -renewing levy?
Our Geauga County governmental representatives are weak and afraid for their jobs. They will not stand up to the Governor of Ohio and demand equity for Geauga County residents. Stand up for yourselves and vote “NO” on all levies on November 2, 2010.

I agree with you completely. I think most people in Geauga consider our library system an asset, including myself.
But this is not about the Library or any other agency or service. This is about accountability! Managing taxpayers money properly! Knowing how to survive in tough times like the rest of us families and small businesses, instead of having your hand out constantly.
When you are continually supplied with other peoples money, you can just keep spending, spending, spending. There is no art of sound management there.
When you have to go out and work hard for the money instead of it getting handed to you, a person developes a whole new perspective on managing it. THAT is the kind of perspective that is MISSING in people and agencies who exist on tax money!
Like a child who keeps asking daddy for more money without working for it,
they will never learn how to manage it properly or save for a rainy day, they will just keep spending it.
Sorry, but I agree with Judy....NO MORE LEVIES.... NOT ONE!
