The upcoming Geauga Library Levy
will get a NO vote from me!
The current issue of the Geauga Library newsletter (Lines & Links) reads, “The Library Board may direct the County Commissioners to place a levy on the ballot in November.” I will not support this levy.
Is our library important? Of course it is. Is Deborah F. O’Connor possibly the best Library Director we could ever hope for? YES. Deborah F. O’Connor is a nationally recognized professional and the entire library staff is absolutely dedicated and wonderful.
The problem we are facing here in Geauga County is with our state funding. The State of Ohio returns little of our tax dollars because they know that the good people of Geauga County will make up the difference. Look at what they have done to our school funding!
The residents of Geauga County should not be punished for working hard, paying our bills on time, raising our families, and for caring for our neighbors and community.
We need to elect public officials who will stand up to Columbus and show them that Geauga County is more than willing to pay our fair share, but not at the expense of our own safety and services.

You brought up some good points. I'm sure no one is against the Library, it being an important part of any community, and we have a darn good one.
The sad fact is, the residents of Geauga can't start taking up the slack for all programs that the state pulled funding from....it would become too much to bear.
The economy isn't going to be getting better any time soon, despite what the controled media claims.
The county has to be carefull with money and make sure there will always be enough for CRITICAL SERVICES which should be the first and foremost concern.
Other departments of our county may have to cut back way more than they expected or wanted. Some departments wouldn't be missed or make any difference at all in our county if they became non existant. Even though I don't think the library is one of these, it may also have to cut back more than expected.
We should not be sending as much money to the state as we are, but most local officials don't have the backbone to stand up to the state and stand up for us. We have too many wimps in office!
